Here's a 1993 Internet post, but I doubt it's anywhere near the date of origin:groups.googleFrom: hollarn@knight.gannon.edu (hollarn@knight.gannon.edu)Subject: Re: AT&T TrueVoice DSP Analysis...

Add an "e" when searching, aldi - I think you'll find more and older cites.(I'd also cross-check "same old, same old" and "sam-o, sam-o").

Gooja has "same ole same ole" and "same-o same-o" from 1990. Gooja isn't a reliable indicator of usage before 1994 (too few posts), so the phrase could be considerably older.

It's used in Geneva Smitherman's 1979 paper,"Toward Educational Linguistics for the First World" in a mimicry of schoolyard speech.

At a tangent, wg, is egad common in the States or were you using it facetiously? It's not used here much, if at all.

I dunno, I use it a lot.Or did you mean "egad" specifically, as opposed to "egads"? I suppose I use them about equally."Gadzooks" is up there, too.

Egad(s) and even gadzooks may be common on Zeta Reticuli, but here in the US of A they are only used for their effect as novelties.
